The annual Hardly Strictly Bluegrass Festival just took place this past weekend in San Francisco (outdoors in Golden Gate Park), which still stands as my favorite music festival. It's in a beautiful setting, features roots, rock, country, folk, and traditional bluegrass from big and 'small' names alike, is extremely well organized, and is...entirely free. Dave Alvin played a fantastic set Saturday afternoon with a group he called the Guilty Women; here he is with bassist Sarah Brown.
